Press on Northward!

The day dawned just like many others in the past week, cloudy and a sky threatening to dump tons of water on our parade. However, we packed our cars and got on the Interstate headed for Cape Cod. We had received a gracious invitation from Jane and Ray Molyneax to stop by and see them. We were hesitant to do so just now, as the Memorial Day Weekend was upon us. When we had tentatively accepted their kind invitation, we thought that we would be up their way a week earlier. When we called from Connecticut, Ray assured us that we should come ahead. It wasn’t raining when we departed, but soon began drizzling. By the time we arrived in Providence, RI, it was raining in earnest and harassed our drive for most of the way.

This leg of the tour was only 190 miles, or so and we were making good time in spite of the weather, some rough roads and construction zones. About 1000, we realized we were going to be early at the Molyneux’s, so we slowed down a bit. In fact, we left the Interstate and got on US-6, a road we would eventually take, and drove through some of the small towns to enjoy the scenery. It is just becoming spring in New England and the trees are in new leaf and had gorgeous red blossoms. Even with all the fog and rain, we could appreciate their beauty. When we got to Buzzards Bay, we spied a Wal-Mart and decided to do some shopping. Then we went to lunch and called Ray to tell him where we were and give him an estimate on our arrival.

The remainder of the trip was short and filled with new sights for us all. We found the Molyneux’s home in the woods without much trouble and soon these hospitable people, like long lost friends, were welcoming us. Their home is relatively new, situated on a woodsy pond with much evidence of Jane’s green thumb in the garden. Birds flock to their feeders and the kitty, “Freddie”, eyes them hungrily from her perch on the ottoman in a bright sunroom at the back of the house. That evening, Ray did great steaks on the barbecue and Jane sautéed mushrooms. With a green salad and wine, we had a wonderful dinner.

The Olsons related an experience they had a few days ago. Their alarm went off in the morning and as usual, they got up, bathed, dressed and packed up to depart. As Dennis was preparing to go out the door with a load for the car, he glanced at his watch. It was 0330! Seems their cell phone had rung Joan thought it was the alarm, so they got up! They both got undressed and went back to bed. They never did discover why they had received a call at that hour. It must have been a wrong number.

Tomorrow, we plan to see more of Cape Cod.

Regards to all,

The Dauntless Four
