Finally! We are out of North Carolina!
It’s not that we have anything against North Carolina! It’s just that we have been hexed by the state. We entered North Carolina on May 5th – that was 19 days ago, so almost half of our tour has been in or around North Carolina! We were stymied in Asheville for three days by violent storms in the NC, TN, KY area. Once the storms had passed, we thought things would improve and we would be in Virginia in a few days. However, it took us six days to do a repair on one of the cars in Grandy, NC. Now we are on the move, but North Carolina isn’t letting us go without a fight.
We planed a delayed departure from Grandy this morning to give Dennis a chance to re-torque the head bolts. Therefore our 0740 departure was a bit before we thought we might get away. It was raining lightly as we pulled out; however, light rain soon turned into a steady, heavy rain. This dampened our plans to visit Williamsburg. Those of you who have been there know that this place is an open-air museum and reasonably good weather is required for full enjoyment. When we realized the bad weather was so extensive, we immediately changed gears and decided to hole up in Richmond. We had accumulated lots of dirty laundry and wanted an opportunity to visit a Laundromat.

Our next stop planned is to visit friends Connie and Jim Baker not far distant from Richmond, so we called Jim and told him to expect us on Monday morning. We found a motel in the northern outskirts of Richmond and “lucked out” by finding a Laundromat across the street. The laundry is done, so now we have time to record the day’s events and see if we can make a connection with the outside world.
Wet, but undaunted,
The Four
