04/17/03; Houston, Texas
“Houston, we’ve got a problem!” I didn’t know how to work that into the letter tonight, so I just put it in as a starter.
We arrived in Houston shortly after noon. Our departure from San Antonio was in a dreary, misty day at 0715. Some four and one-half hours later, we were here! That was a drive of 212 miles. It was I-10 all the way. After a “rocky” start from the motel – Keith, trying to get on the I-10 entered a one-way street the wrong way, but recognizing the error quickly, made an immediate “U-turn” in light traffic and we were away! Traffic soon faded and we were on the Interstate with a bunch of trucks.
Once we got to Houston, the traffic picture changed and we were driving bumper-to-bumper through the heart of Houston. Our destination was Webster, a suburb near the NASA Johnson Space Center. We had a coupon for a Best Western Motel, which we easily found and checked in. By 1300, we had made our way to the Space Center where we had a late lunch and toured the Space Center.
Now, it is 1830 and I will try to make a hook-up with the Internet. If I do, this and the other missives not yet transmitted will get to Pat for posting on the web site. Wish me luck!
Regards to all,
Dennis, Keith, Joan & Joann
