04/16/03; San Antonio, Texas

Greetings to All:

We left Kerrville this morning at 0800 under the leadership of Dwyane Roark and wife Juhretta, MATC members from Oklahoma. In addition to the Olson – Smith Tour, we had Richard Boltinghouse, from Dallas and wife, Peggy. We had a pleasant though drizzly three and one-half-hour drive to San Antonio. By arrival, the sun was shining. We were the first group in, so after checking in, Richard led us to the Mexican shopping area where we had a lunch in a pleasant Mexican sidewalk restaurant. Then we visited the Alamo.

While there, Keith got engrossed in the artifacts and didn’t notice that the rest of the group had left the main building. He attempted to make contact, to no avail and after a protracted period returned to the hotel, stopping at several spots that had been mentioned by the group earlier. Keith continued back to the hotel and the group found him there some time later. Keith was in the doghouse! After profuse apologies, Keith was forgiven and we all went to dinner along the Riverwalk. After dinner we took a leisurely boat ride on the San Antonio river and capped the night with an ice-cream cone.

We sat with Ron and Carol (Mosher) at dinner and brought everyone up to date on the tour thus far. Ron was having problems with his engine overheating. He expected that he might have to remove the head and replace the head gasket the next morning. Because of his malfunction, Jill Sullins gleefully gave Ron the rubber “chicken” he had given to her a few days earlier.

We depart from the Texas Wildflower and Eating Tour tomorrow morning, so we said our good-byes to all our friends and our family members that were continuing on to Dallas.

That’s it for today...

Keith, Joann, Joan & Dennis
