4/14/03; Kerrville; Texas Day One

Today is our first full day on the Texas Wildflower Trail with the Touring Club. In all, it was about 100 miles, but our leader got a bit lost and we covered a few extra miles. We wound through the “Hill Country” of Texas on back roads, encountering few cars, but lots of scenic spots. We crossed the Guadelupe River 13 times! A prize was given to the person guessing the number of time we crossed it.

Fords ford the creek!

We had lunch at the Cripple Creek Ranch and a good one it was! We see why the tour was titled Texas Wildflower and Eating Tour! The weather wasn’t favorable at the start of the tour and we encountered light misty rain. Not much, but enough to tell us that our windshield needs better sealing!

Dinner was on our own this evening and Keith and Joann dined with Bob and Marie Henz. Bob was a classmate of Keith’s in USAF Pilot Training at Randolph Field, Texas in 1946 and in the same Troop Carrier Squadron in Greenville, SC, after pilot training.

We have come about one-tenth of the way on our journey, totaling just over 1300 miles!

Our fond regards to family and friends,

Joan, Joann, Dennis & Keith
