04/13/03; Kerrville, Texas
Howdy from Deep in the Heart of Texas!
We departed Sonora at 0750 and drove the 104 miles to Kerrville in 2:25 with a stop for gas. When we arrived, we couldn’t get in the motel and our friends were out touring. Therefore, we found a Laundromat and did our accumulated laundry. Following that, we found a nice park in town, had lunch and took a walk before returning to the motel.
When our friends arrived, we all toured the countryside along back roads to the home of Kathy and Tom Torget in a new development out of town. It used to be a part of a large ranch that had many exotic animals, many of which still roam the area. Tom issued a challenge to all of us to the effect that we couldn’t climb the hill to his house in high gear. Well, I certainly didn’t even try – though many tried and failed. We were near the last to arrive and just as we did, we saw the Sullins car ignominiously backing down the hill and being pushed off the road. They had suffered serious trouble in the drive train!
Our Ron (Mosher), ever the prankster, produced a rubber chicken and to the chagrin of Jill and the delight of the group, presented it to Jill as a “reward” for the breakdown. Jill will be the possessor of the chicken until she catches someone else in a similar predicament.

The party at the Torget’s was delightful. Their home was beautiful and Tom’s car collection the envy of every man and some of the women! The Torgets are great people and we are happy to have them as members of the Touring Club. That includes Annie, their dog!

All for now,
